ROBIN HOOD MOVIE MANIA AS FIVE FILMS ARE CURRENTLY IN PRODUCTION BY MAJOR STUDIOS.

The recent announcement by Warner Brothers that they are planning a new Robin Hood movie means that together with Sony, Disney, Lionsgate and a French film company, there are now an unprecedented total of FIVE Robin Hood based movie projects in production, all putting their own artistic interpretations on the traditional tale of the legendary outlaw hero!

Brief details on each of the productions are as follows:

Warner Brothers are keeping their exact proposals "under-wraps" at this stage but it is thought that Will Beall (Gangster Squad/Aquaman) will write the script and Dan Lin, who was behind the Lego Movie, will produce the movie.

Sony Pictures "Hood" is believed to be a realistic, action-heavy production with a focus on Robin's band of Merry Men, including Little John, Friar Tuck and Will Scarlett.

Disney have their eye on creating a potential blockbuster and with a working title of "Nottingham and Hood", the studio hopes to repeat the success of its "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise with an adventure comedy for both children and adults.

Lionsgate are apparently linked to Leonardo De Caprio's Appian Way production company and their "Robin Hood: Origins" will be scripted by Joby Harold, the screenwriter behind Guy Ritchie's "Knights of the Round Table: King Arthur" , with Jude Law and Charlie Hunnam, which is scheduled to be in movie theatres in the summer of 2016.

All of the above projects are still in the early development stage and no actors have been announced to play Robin Hood. However all the productions have the potential to attract major Hollywood stars to the role, especially given the enduring popularity of the character and his legendary exploits.

Meanwhile, across the Atlantic, in Europe, French actor Max Boublil will play Robin in "Robin des Bois: La Veritable Histoire" ("Robin Hood: The True Story"). A quirky comedy created by writer/ director , Anthony Marciano, in which the legendary archer is actually a scoundrel who steals from poor people, women and children!

Over the decades, there have been many Robin Hood films made for the big and small screen and they are listed (with the principal cast) in The Robin Hood Film and Television Guide that you can access through the following link: www.robinhood.org.uk.

Mike Douglas of the World Wide Robin Hood Society welcomes the news and says that the movie industry interest shows the enduring popularity of the Sherwood hero. "There's a worldwide appetite for Robin Hood, which has been under-exploited for so long in the outlaw's home city and county!"
